Escape From Tarkov Gunsmith Part 2 Quest Details

Much like the first part of the quest, the Escape From Tarkov Gunsmith Part 2 quest requires you to hand over a gun with very specific requirements to Mechanic. This time, you’ll need to part with an AKS-74U that has the following requirements:

  • Zenit B-11 handguard
  • 60-round magazine
  • No more than six slots
  • Over 58 ergonomics
  • Less than 550 overall recoil (horizontal and vertical combined)
  • Sighting range over 100
  • 3.5kg or less
  • Over 60 durability

Mechanic does not mention that the gun needs to be over 60 durability in his description, but you won’t be able to hand it over without this requirement being fulfilled. Luckily, he gives you a fresh AKS-74U once you accept the quest, so you can just use that one. If you’ve already used that however, you can pick one up from Prapor after completing the Debut quest, or on the Escape From Tarkov flea market.

You must be at least level 11 to start this quest, and will be entitled to 4000 EXP, 60,000 Roubles, two capacitors, 2 bundles of wires, and an increase of 0.02 to your Mechanic rep for completing the quest.

Using the stock AKS-74U that is given to you by Mechanic, the only items you will need are as follows:

  • AKS-74U Zenit B-11 handguard
  • AK-74 5.45x39 6L31 60-round magazine
  • KAV vertical foregrip
  • AK polymer pistol grip (6P1 Sb.8)

Most of these are super easy to pick up thankfully, with the foregrip and pistol grip being available for purchase at Peacekeeper and Prapor LL1 respectively. The Zenit B-11 handguard can be picked up from Skier LL1 too, but can also be traded with Mechanic at LL1 for two D batteries and a green battery if you have them lying around.

Where most players are going to run into a problem is with the 6L31 60-round magazine, as that cannot be bartered for until Prapor LL2, and can be incredibly expensive on the flea market when the quest is in high demand.

If you’ve managed to find the ZB-014 key, checking inside that bunker by the Outskirts extract on the Escape From Tarkov Woods map could give you some luck, but the most reliable and consistent source for this attachment is through the level two Lavatory in the Hideout. Exchanging four 6L23 30-round magazines and one KEKTAPE, alongside a Flat Screwdriver (long) that you can keep will get you the magazine you need.

  • Make sure to complete the Escape From Tarkov Delivery from the Past quest before you get to Gunsmith Part 2.

Escape From Tarkov Gunsmith Part 2: How To Assemble The Weapon

Now, the only thing left to do after acquiring all the parts is to actually assemble the weapon. This is an even easier process if you have built the Workbench in your Hideout, but it is still easy to do just from your stash.

The first thing you’ll want to do is take off the existing handguard, but make sure not to remove the gas tube with it as this can easily be done in error. Replace the hand guard with the Zenit B-11, and then you’ll be able to slap the KAC foregrip on too.

Swap out the existing pistol grip for the 6P1 Sb.8, and then do the same with the 60-round magazine if there is one already inserted in the gun.

The last thing you need to do now is just to fold the gun, so that it fits the size requirement of the quest. You can do this by either right-clicking on the weapon and selecting the fold option, or by just hitting the middle-mouse button while hovering on the gun. Now, just head back over to Mechanic and give him the gun to enjoy your rewards.
